PUBLIC NOTICE
The Brunswick County Board of Commissioners met for a regular meeting at 3 p.m. this Monday, June 1, 2026.
Below is a quick recap of the actions taken on selected agenda items during the regular meeting. Residents can watch the meeting replay, view the full agenda and accompanying reports and subscribe to agenda notifications on the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal.

The Board held a public hearing on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 recommended budget during this meeting. The recommended budget can be viewed in the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal and at brunswickcountync.gov/budget.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 15 at 6 p.m. The Board will continue the public hearing on the FY 2027 recommended budget and consider its adoption during this meeting.

*Note: During the May 18 meeting, the Board determined it did not need to hold a possible study session that was tentatively scheduled for 1-3 p.m. before the regular meeting on Monday, June 1.

III. Adjustments/Approval of Agenda
The Board unanimously approved the agenda as presented.
V. Approval of Consent Agenda
The Board unanimously approved the consent agenda as presented. The full list of the approved consent agenda items is available on the Brunswick County Agendas and Minutes Portal.
VI. Public Hearings
- Administration – Public Hearing for Installment Financing Contract Related to Limited Obligation Bonds, Series 2026 and Subsequently Consider Adoption of the Approving Resolution: The Board unanimously moved to hold a public hearing in order to receive comments on the County's execution and delivery of an installment financing contract and the projects financed and refinanced thereby and subsequently consider adopting he approving resolution authorizing the transactions. There were no requests to speak. After closing the public hearing, the Board unanimously approved the resolution as presented in the agenda.
- Administration – Public Hearing to Receive Comments on the FY 2027 Brunswick County Budget, Fees, and Capital Improvement Plan: The Board unanimously moved to hold a public hearing on the Manager's FY 2027 recommended budget, proposed fees and five-year capital improvement plan. There were no requests to speak. The Board unanimously moved to recess the public hearing and continue it during the next meeting on Monday, June 15 beginning at 6 p.m. The Board will consider adoption of the FY 2027 recommended budget during this meeting.
VII. Board Appointments
- Clerk to the Board - 2026 Annual Board Appointments (continued): The Board took the following actions:
- The Board unanimously reappointed Patricia McDaniels to the Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee.
- The Board unanimously moved to table decisions on the vacant seats on the Board of Equalization and Review (two seats) and the Board of Adjustments Alternate (one seat) to continue to solicit applications. Click here to learn more about openings on advisory boards and committees and how to apply.
- The Board unanimously appointed Rhonda Benton to the vacancy on the Library Board of Trustees.
IX. Closed Session
- County Attorney – Closed Session: The Board entered into closed session pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-318.11(a)(1) and (3) to approve closed session minutes of January 20, 2026, February 16, 2026, and March 16, 2026, and consult with its attorney in order to preserve the attorney-client privilege. The Commissioners also requested to remain in closed session to discuss personnel. There was nothing to report following the Board’s return from closed session.

Public Comment and Public Hearings
Most regular meetings include a time for public comment before the Commissioners at the beginning of the meeting. Some meetings also have public hearings for specific issues. The public hearings are similar to a public comment period but pertain to one topic.
Individuals wishing to speak during a public hearing should sign up before the meeting starts on the form at the door dedicated to public hearings. This form is separate from the form used to sign up for public comments at the beginning of the meeting.
Speakers wishing to distribute any related documents, printed comments or materials to the commissioners should deliver at least eight copies to the county clerk at least fifteen minutes before the meeting starts.
